Greenhouse Floor
Drainage is important. Materials such as gravel, bricks and pavers will provide proper drainage and easy installation. Before laying down any floor material, it is important to install landscape fabric to reduce weeds.
Garden Beds
For existing beds, unroll the landscape fabric and cut an "X" where each plant fits. Then gently work the fabric down to the plant base and snug the cut flaps to the stem. For larger plants, such as trees or shrubs, slit the fabric from the edge to the "X". Then slide the fabric around the stem, trunk or base.
For new beds, unroll the fabric and cut an "X" where each hole is to be dug and plant through.
Hanging Baskets
Landscape fabric may be used as a hanging basket liner. Install prior to soil with 1-2 inches overhanging. Trim any excess fabric once soil and plants are in place.
Retaining Walls & Drainage
For retaining walls and drainage, temporarily fasten one edge of the Landscape Fabric overlapping the top of the wall. The middle of the fabric should lie loosely at the wall base. Then make a "U" shaped envelope with the fabric. Fill with drainage aggregate, bringing the loose edge of the fabric up to the top of the wall. Overlap the first edge by one foot minimum. This will help prevent any silt from contaminating the drain or leaching through the wall.
Soil Separation
For soil separation (aggregate separation), remove any existing debris from the area. Lay down the landscape fabric, overlapping the edges by a minimum of 6 inches. Then cover with a layer of aggregate.
* Landscape fabric must be covered with at least 3 inches of mulch or aggregate to guard against degradation.
