Welcome to Charley's Greenhouse & Garden!

The Beginning

For over 50 years, Charley's Greenhouse & Garden has been the go-to provider for greenhouse gardeners across America. In 1973, Charley Yaw, fresh out of Oregon State University, began designing portable buildings. With no money in his pockets but an entrepreneur's dream in his heart, he found a vacant chicken barn near Pine Lake, Washington, and the adventure began.

One day, a request came in to create a backyard greenhouse. The customer was elated with the result, and soon, business expanded by word of mouth from satisfied customers. Back then, finding supplies proved challenging for backyard gardeners because commercial suppliers were not interested in selling small quantities of pots, propagation mats, lights, and other growing accessories. Recognizing this gap, Charley and his wife, Carol, put together their first 16-page, black-and-white supply catalog for greenhouse customers in 1975. Money was scarce, and they only had enough to print 400 catalogs.

Over time, their mailing list grew to over 1 million households. As greenhouse demand increased, Charley and Carol added new greenhouse lines from England, Canada, Germany, China, and Denmark to the supply catalog. They soon became the #1 USA supplier of specialized hobby greenhouse equipment and garden supplies!
